The arrest of a 48-year-old Middleton man on drug charges produced more drugs than police had originally charged him with. On May 7th, two men were booked into a Middleton jail on multiple drug charges including narcotics possession and sales.
Detectives conducting surveillance on a Washington St. apartment building in Middleton observed two men pull up in an Infiniti G35 vehicle. They saw people approach the vehicle, which led them to believe the men were selling drugs. When the pair pulled out of the parking area, detectives followed them, and pulled them over a short distance away. The men appeared very nervous. Upon asking them to step out, detectives searched the vehicle where they found a digital scale and small bag of crack cocaine. Both men had multiple previous drug charges.
While in booking at police headquarters, officers noticed that the 48-year-old man was acting very uncomfortable, and could not seem to sit comfortably. Refusing to comply with a strip search, he finally admitted that he also had drugs hidden inside his body. He then retrieved three grams of cocaine from his buttocks, which led to total of six felony charges between the two men. Both already have a long criminal history of drug and assault charges. The second man was out on parole.
Cocaine charges are regulated at both state and federal levels, and may carry sentences up to life in prison. An experienced criminal defense attorney may be able to negotiate lesser charges, or a plea deal with prosecutors in return for additional information. It is not recommended that a person who is charged with cocaine possession or trafficking attempt to defend the charges alone. Skilled legal counsel is needed in order to receive the best possible outcome.
