It is relatively simple to become involved in a motor vehicle accident. Even drivers who are typically safe and observant can become involved in a crash if their attention is taken away from the road for only a moment. Unfortunately, a man in Connecticut is now likely considering his criminal defense after he was arrested for DWI following a crash.
The incident that led to the man’s arrest is said to have happened during the early morning hours of a day in April. Police reports indicate that the vehicle a 26-year-old man was driving struck the rear of a vehicle that was stopped at an intersection. The force of the impact allegedly pushed the second vehicle into a police cruiser.
While both of the first two vehicles are said to have sustained significant damage, the police cruiser only received minor damage. No one was injured. However, the driver of the first vehicle now faces multiple charges, including DWI with property damage and following too closely.
Despite the allegations made by police, those suspected or accused of a crime are considered not guilty unless proved otherwise. To do so, prosecutors must provide sufficient evidence that shows the person is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt — a standard that is often difficult to meet. Because of many of the complexities associated with the criminal justice system, many people in Connecticut facing charges often seek guidance from an experienced criminal defense attorney. Those accused of crimes often feel more confident making the decisions that come with such charges with such a professional on their side.
