Anyone who drives on Connecticut interstates is likely aware of the potential of being involved in a car crash. Though drivers may follow the speed limit and other traffic safety guidelines, even the safest of operators are often unable to avoid accidents caused by negligent drivers. In fact, police have recently cited a driver involved in an accident that resulted in the personal injury of two people.
Reports indicate that the incident happened after midnight on a day in late April. According to reports, three tractor-trailers and a sedan were traveling in the right lane of Interstate 95. Though the drivers of these vehicles all slowed down as they reached a construction zone, officials with the Connecticut State Police claim that a fourth tractor-trailer driver failed to slow.
As a result, his tractor-trailer reportedly struck the rear of the sedan, causing it to become wedged between two tractor-trailers before coming free. Debris from the accident is said to have spread across the interstate, prompting a closure out of safety concerns. While there were no fatalities reported, two people involved suffered serious injuries. The driver of the fourth tractor-trailer was issued an infraction following the accident.
Unfortunately, a personal injury suffered in a car accident can require extensive medical treatment. During recovery, many victims are unable to work. Between lost wages and medical expenses, they could face serious financial ramifications. As a result, those injured by another person’s negligence often choose to file a civil lawsuit against the parties thought to be responsible. In the case of an accident involving a commercial vehicle, both the driver and his or her employer are typically named as defendants in any related civil litigation.
