People in Connecticut utilize the roadways in a variety of different ways. Those who choose to walk, however, should be able to do just as safely as those who choose to drive or take public transportation. Unfortunately, a man recently lost his life in a pedestrian accident earlier this month, resulting in the arrest of a driver.
The incident happened in early May. Police say that they received a call about a motor vehicle accident that involved a pedestrian. When they arrived at the scene, they reportedly discovered a 65-year-old man lying in the road, suffering from a head injury. He was transported to the hospital where he ultimately passed away as a result of his injuries.
The driver that police believe struck the man, a 37-year-old woman, reportedly remained at the scene. Reports indicate that police administered multiple field sobriety tests that she failed. At that time, she was charged with driving under the influence. She recently turned herself in on an additional charge of second degree manslaughter and is currently being held on bond.
Unfortunately, a family is mourning the unexpected — and possibly preventable — loss of their loved one due to the pedestrian accident. Many families in Connecticut who experience such a loss face financial hardship in addition to their grief. The consequences of funeral costs and lost wages can quickly become overwhelming. As a result, many decide the hire an experienced personal injury attorney to help them fully understand their options, including whether a wrongful death lawsuit is appropriate.
